Catherine Jasper was born June 12, 1854, in Lette Koisfeld, Germany, in the year 1872 she was married to Mr. Frank Tastove at Colesburg. She came across from Germany with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerbard Jasper at the age of twelve years. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Tastove moved to a farm near Worthington where they lived 19 years before coming to Granville where she made her home until the time of her death. Her husband died 11 years ago.

The best of care was tendered Mrs. Tastove by Miss Genevieve Goergen. Deceased was a kind and loving mother and was well liked by all who knew her. She had a host of friends, always being friendly and good natured. She was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Christian Mother Society, and since 1918 a gold star mother.

She is survived by the following children: Henry of Westphalia, Kansas, Ed of Slayton, Minnesota, Frank of Primghar, Anna, Mrs. Bert Christenson, Kate, Mrs. Frank Vonderhaar of Paullina, Louise, Mrs. Lester Dougherty of Hospers, Lizzie, Mrs. Mike Jemming, deceased, Mary, Mrs. Clem Vonderhaar and Lena deceased and John who died at Hursly Hospital, England, in 1918 while serving in the World War. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren.

The last rites were held Monday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Joseph Church with Reverend John Gerleman and Reverend Leo Berger of Sioux City officiating. Pallbearers were her six nephews: Joe Tastove, Frank Jemming, Ed, Alvis, and Herman Vonderhaar.
