Died: April 23, 1943Edward Ira Swynenberg, 47 passed away at his home at No. 6 Terrace Apartments in Sioux City Friday April 23 at 9:30 p.m.
Death was caused by cancer with which the decedent suffered for the past year. He underwent an operation 4 months ago in the Methodist hospital; Sioux City, which was to no avail. The last two months he received medical care in the home. He was a patient sufferer while his life slowly ebbed away.
He was born November 30, 1895 at Chicago where he lived until his 20th year.
He came to Newkirk where he was employed as clerk in the Newkirk store for some time. On the 8th of June, 1918 he was married to Miss Antoinette Van Es of Newkirk.
After their marriage the couple bought a property at Carnes and had a store building erected of which he was proprietor for 10½ years. The following 13 years they lived at Le Mars where he was station manager of the Plymouth County Co-op. Oil Company. The last 4 years they lived in Sioux City where they were managers of the Terrace Apartments the last 1½ years.
Surviving are his widow, no children were born to this union, his father Roel Swynenberg of Chicago and his sister, Geneva, Mrs. Nick Bouma of Orange City.
His mother preceded him in death 8 years ago.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City with Reverend T. W, Dunn, pastor of the First Methodist Church, of which he was a member, of Sioux City officiating. Interment was made in the Orange City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dick Muilenburg, Louis Vander Schaaf, Howard Jelgerhuis, George Foreman, Edward Utech and Jacob Holfmeyer. A.D. Van Etten had charge of funeral arrangements.
Attending the funeral from out of town were Reverend and Mrs. Dunn, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Coomer and Mrs. Ray Troutman all of Sioux City.
