JOE STIENTJES, BOYDEN RESIDENT FOR MANY YEARS--DIES

Johannes Stientjes passed away at his home in Boyden on Thursday evening, May 31, at 6 o’clock, after an illness of five weeks and had reached the age of 65 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o’clock in the First Reformed Church at Boyden, on Monday afternoon, June 4. Reverend H. Van’t Kerkhoff was in charge. Interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery, with the following men serving as pallbearers: Gerrit Kooiman, Paul Schreader, John Stuyk, Joe Rensink, R. Kamminga and Henry Harmon.

Johannes Stientjes was born in Amsterdam, Holland on June 16, 1879, and came with his parents to this country at the age of two years. He resided near Boyden until the time of his death. He was married to Sophie Moret on December 26, 1900.

Surviving his death are his wife and six children, four sons and two daughters, namely: Joe of Pella, Morel of Sheldon, Arnold of Boone, (Wilma) Mrs. Alvin Smit of Alta, Harold of Marcus and (Evelyn) Mrs. Albert Rozeboom of Minneapolis. Other survivors are 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, T.J. Stientjes of Sheldon, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Boer of Sheldon and Mrs. J.S. De Vries of Primghar.

He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden nearly all his life, and will be greatly missed by everyone with whom he had any contacts. Mr. Stientjes underwent an operation at Rochester, Minnesota about five weeks ago. He was a son-in-law of Mrs. M. Moret of Sheldon.

Mr. Stientjes death brings to a close an active life in the Boyden community. He was one of the oldest in length of affiliation with his church, some 50 odd years, and had been a member for 32 years. He pioneered in home building and built up the farm from which he retired a year ago this spring. There he lived 44 years. It was there where the family was raised and grew up. He was a man of sterling Christian character and was well and favorably known in this community. He was a loving father and husband. Truth was the inspiration of his life and by kindness he exemplified its great worth.
