Obituary of Peter Vanden Oever , buried here Thursday
Funeral service fro Peter Vanden Oever, 61 year old farmer residing 2 miles west and 6 ˝ miles north of Hull were held at the house at 12:30 o’clock, and at the Frist Refromed Church of Doon at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 1939 with Rev. G. Vander Wolde in charge, assisted by Rev. John De Jongh of Rock Rapids. Services were held at the Chapel in Hope Cemetery with Rev. G. H. Doustra of ull in charge. Burial was made in Hope Cemetery Hull.
Pall bearers were: Gerth Van’t Hul, Henry Kelderman, Albert Koole, Gerrit Vink, Andrew Mellema and Joe Keizer.
Safe in the Arms of Jesus and No Night There were sung by a mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. John Weststeyn. Mr. William Boersma and Miss Kathryn Terpstra.
'Death came to Mr. Vanden Oever at 10:15 o'clock, Monday night, January 23, 1939, after an illness of nine days. His wife and children were with him at the time of his death. His illness first carne upon him, Saturday evening, January 14. when he suffered a light stroke while playing a game with some of the members of his family. He was 61 years and 10 months old at the time of his death, Peter Vanden Oever was born on March. 23, 1877 at Pella, Iowa. He moved to Sioux County in 1883, when a small chiid, and settled with his parents on a farm south of Hull.
He was united in marriage with Barbara Brouwer of Rock Valley on Feb. 12, 1903. Following their marriage they made their home on the De Koster farm, 3 ˝ miles north of Perkins Corners and for the past 30 years have lived on that farm.
Mr. Vanden Oever was a member of the Frist Reformed Church at Doon. He is survived by his wife and ten children: John at home; Ada Mrs. Peter Burgraaf of Rock Rapids; Cynthia at home, Fred of Doon, Andews of Stickney SD, Jake at home; Katie Mrs. Clarence Top of Beaver Creek MN and Rena, Henry and Peter Jr all at Home. Three children preceded him in death in early life. He is also survived by a brother John of Hull, and four grand children.
