Funeral services were held Friday, November 15 at the First Reformed Church of Maurice for Thomas Swarts, 69, lifelong resident of Maurice who passed away Wednesday, November 13, at the hospital at Le Mars, following a brief illness. Reverend Martin Hoekman officiated and burial took place in the Sherman township Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home of Orange City.
He was the last survivor of the Swarts family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Sadie (Dykstra) Swarts, a brother, Albert, and three sisters, Mrs. Peter De Jager, Mrs. Abel Popma and Mrs. Luke Warntjes, as also by several brothers and sisters who died in infancy.
Swarts was employed with the Great Northern Railroad until his retirement.
