DEATH CLAIMS EARLY CITIZEN--DAVID A. SUMMERS DIED EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING---PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF DAUGHTER, MRS. FRED EARL OF THIS CITY--AT THE AGE OF 79

David A. Summers, a pioneer resident of this community, passed away about 3 o’clock Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Earl, in this city, following a lingering illness of several months duration. He was taken ill with the flu last November and he never completely recovered from the effects of it although he was bedfast for only ten days preceding his death.

Funeral services were held at the Fred Earl home at 2 o’clock this afternoon with Reverend J.E. Bruner, pastor of the Baptist Church in charge. Interment was made in Union Hill Cemetery in Washington Township.

David A. Summers was born at Cascade, Iowa, October 8, 1846, and passed away in Hawarden April 21, 1926, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 13 days. He came to this part of the country 43 years ago with his family and located on a farm in Union County, several miles northwest of Hawarden. He was married to Ella Macomber. Later he moved onto a farm in Washington Township and then moved to Brule County, South Dakota. Later he returned to Iowa and located on a farm in Washington Township. He continued to make his home there until 25 years ago when his wife passed away. Since that time he has made his home with his children and for the past year has lived continually with Mrs. Earl.

He was the father of seven children, three of whom have preceded him in death. Those who remain to mourn his departure are three daughters, Mrs. Fred Earl of Hawarden; Mrs. Warren Earl of Ireton; and Mrs. Clara Hansen of Los Angeles, California; and one son, Ray Summers of Sulphur, South Dakota. He also leaves one sister at Macy, Indiana, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a large circle of friends.
