Tonnis “Tunis” Stuit died at his home on Saturday evening at 5:30 o’clock at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 7 days.

He was born at Veendam, Netherlands on May 13, 1857. His entire childhood was spent there and he married Barbara Alberdina De Haan at Veendam on May 1, 1884. To this union 8 children were born of whom four preceded him in death, two of his children died in infancy and one at the age of eight, one at 27. Those who survived their father are as follows--Mrs. S.C. De Bruin (Grietje) of Sheldon; Henry of Hospers; Mrs. H. De Vries (Hilieda) of Farmsum, Netherlands; and John of Woodstock, Minnesota.

In 1913 he and his family, except Mrs. De Vries, came to America and settled at Hospers. Besides the widow and four children he is survived by 11 grandchildren.

The deceased was preceded in death by four of the children, and by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday with services at 1:30 o’clock in the home and in the First Reformed Church with Reverend Stegeman conducting the services. Interment was made at the cemetery west of Hospers.
