Mrs. John Struyk was born March 20, 1878, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arie Steenhoven, in Nieuw Bierland, South Holland, The Netherlands.

Lydia Martje "Lidewij Maartje" Steenhoven, at the age of 18 years, came to America, joining her brother, near Boyden. They made their home here and later were joined by their parents, who also settled in this area.

On December 26, 1902, she was united in marriage to Mr. John Struyk. To this union three daughters and four sons were born: (Cora) Mrs. Frank Juber of Melvin Iowa; Arie Struyk of Boyden; Peter Struyk of Cedar Falls, Iowa; (Nell) Mrs. Peter Van Aalsburg of Sanborn, Iowa; Bert Struyk of Windom, Minnesota, who is at present at Seattle, Washington; (Leona) Mrs. Richard Bogaard of Ackley, Iowa; and John C. Struyk of Lohrville, Iowa. Also 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family farmed in the Boyden Matlock and Melvin areas and they retired in 1944 and moved into Boyden. The past several years Mr. and Mrs. Struyk have made their home at the Sioux Center Nursing Home.

Several days ago Mrs. Struyk entered the hospital with complications of old age and on Saturday, February 22, 1964, her Heavenly Father called her home at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 2 days.

She leaves to mourn, her husband John, and all her children, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, one brother and two grandchildren in infancy.

Mrs. Struyk was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden.

She leaves a large number of friends and relatives, besides her family, who will all miss her greatly.
