Mrs. Stephen E. Strong, 82, a pioneer of Plymouth county, died early Saturday morning at Ottumwa, Iowa, where she had resided the past six years.

Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Church in Hawarden with Reverend Father R. Graf officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the Frazier Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Burke was born March 7, 1871, at Calamine, Wisconsin, where she spent her early years. She moved to Le Mars where she was graduated from high school. She taught in the rural schools in Plymouth County for a short time. Later she was an abstractor and she also served as deputy recorder of Plymouth County nine years.

She was married to Stephen Strong at Le Mars January 31, 1899. Afer her marriage she came to Hawarden to live, residing here until 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Strong then moved onto his farm in Plymouth County, where he had lived before her marriage. She continued to live there until six years ago when she went to Ottumwa to live with her daughter, Mrs. Basil Mill. At that time her health had begun to fail.

Survivors are three children, Phillip of Beaumont, California, Arthur of Hawarden and Mrs. Basil Mill of Ottumwa, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Heighton of Ruthven, Iowa, and Miss Alice Burke of Sioux City; one brother, Frank Burke of Waterloo, Iowa, and six grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Basil Mill and family arrived in Hawarden Monday.
