"Thursday night of last week in Sioux Center, A. M. Vanden Berge. On Saturday the mortal remains were carried to the grave, and the Rev. J. De Pree led the funeral service. If we are well informed, the deceased is the son of Elder J. Vanden Berge, one of the first settlers of Pella, and the family is originally from the 5th District, Province of Zeeland, the Netherlands, where also the writer of this piece saw the light for the first time, and where the father of the deceased, J. Vanden Berge, and of the father Rev. De Pree have served together in the combined congregations of Axel, Terneuzen, and Zaamslag (Zeeuws Vlaanderen). Mr. A. M. Vanden Berge has lived first in Pella, then here, subsequently in Dakota, and finally again in Sioux County. He leaves behind a widow and a few married children, one of them being the wife of W. Van Steenbergen of Sioux Center." De Volksvriend dated May 13, 1897, p. 5, col 2 by unknown translator in Schryvers-Rysdam Story, by Nellie Schryvers Seegrist, p. 117
