Mrs. Martin M. Streff, nee Anna Therese Schneider, who passed away October 9 after a lingering illness, was a native of Alton. She was born on the homestead east of town to Nicholas and Anna Schneider, March 29, 1890.

Married in St. Mary’s Church, Alton, on April 8, 1918, to Martin M. Streff, they farmed east of Alton until 1946 when they moved to town, their home marked by a beautiful grove of blue spruce trees set out by Mr. Streff. Mr. Streff died January 10, 1964.

Reverend Father Cecil Friedmann of Algona, a nephew of the deceased, read the Mass at the funeral services in St. Mary’s Church Saturday morning October 13. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Streff: Joe Friedmann, Clarence, Vincent and Al Streff Jr., Raphael and Gordon Schneider. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America, Remsen.

One daughter, Judith (Mrs. Joe Hansen), survives her parents, and six grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. Catherine Friedmann, Alton; Mrs. Henry Ahlers, Granville; Mrs. William Hodapp, Las Vegas, Nevada and Mrs. Leo Blanchette, Newburg, Oregon. Three brothers survive: George and Edward of Granville; Chris of Alton. Two brothers, John and Charles Schneider, preceded her in death.
