Ruth Virginia Drost, 80, of Sheldon died Thursday, Jan. 31,2002, at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Services were held Monday, Feb. 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the Maurice Reformed Church. Rev. Wayne Sneller officiated. Burial was at Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice, under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center.

Ruth was born March 3, 1921, at Orange City, the daughter of Cornelia and Henry De Haan. She attended school in Orange City, graduating from Orange City High School in 1939. On Dec. 11, 1941, she married Arie Drost. They lived on a farm near Maurice for much of their married life. They owned and operated six different restaurants where Ruth was the cook. She was a foster grandparent through Hope Haven for eight years.

She entered the Oak Park Care Center on Jan. 19, 2001. Arie and Ruth celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 11,2001. Mrs. Drost was a member of Maurice Reformed Church. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing and collecting over 350 dolls.

Survivors include her husband, Arie; two daughters, Carol Reaves of Vancouver, Wash, and Mary Singer and her special friend Darv Ladenthinof Castle Rock, Colo.; a son Kevin and his wife Carla Dorst of Alton; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Al and Jennie De Haan, Stan and Phyllis De Haan and Wally and Carolyn De Haan, all of Orange City; and a sister, Betty Nitz and her husband Howard of Kingswood, Tex.
