Disbrow, Mary Elvira (Mrs. Arthur Scofield) 1857-1929

Death of Alcester Pioneer Mrs. A. S. Disbrow of Alcester passed away at 10:30 Tuesday night following an illness of about two weeks duration. She suffered a paralytic stroke and later pneumonia developed. The end came suddenly without much warning as she collapsed just after asking for a drink of water.

Mrs. Disbrow was born in New York Jan. 9, 1857, but she came to Dakota Territory in 1874. In 1877 she was united in marriage with A. S. Disbrow. She is survived by two sons, A. D. Disbrow of Aberdeen, S. D., and C. G. Disbrow of Madison, S. D., and one daughter, Mrs. Ruth M. Brunt of Virginia. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Duane Deane of Sioux City and Mrs. R. B. Harding of Alcester and one brother, George Hoard of Beresford

Note: From a report on ancestry.com (by others) Mary Elvira Hoard was born Jan 9, 1958 WI, she died Feb 9, 1929 Union Co. SD. She married Arthur Scofield Disbrow Sept 16, 1877 in SD. She was the daughter of Alonzo Hoard and Keziah Small.

She was the pioneer mother of most of the Disbrows in Union County SD and the Hawarden Iowa area.
