Dirksen, Kate, Herman Mrs. born abt 1888 died Oct 19, 1932

Hawarden Independent of Oct 27, 1932

Second Death in Dirksen Family For the second time within three weeks the Herman Dirksen home, 6 miles southwest of Ireton, was cast into deep sorrow on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The death angel this time laid its hand on Mrs. Dirksen, the wife and mother. Sorrow was still everywhere because of the taking of a son only three weeks before and the mother was taken ill with the dread typhoid fever a day after the burial of the son, who also died from typhoid. It was known that she was seriously ill but she was making a gallant fight for recovery and it was hard for her loved ones to realize that death would not be denied.

The husband and seven living children are heartbroken over the loss of wife and mother, who in all her years labored to make the home what it was for her loved ones. Christian ideals and purposes were her aim with all. She was about 46 years old and besides her husband the following children mourn her loss: Mrs. Nick Roghair of Maurice, Iowa; Ella, aged 18, Minnie, aged 15, Dick, 10, Clara, 8, Rena, 6, and the baby, 7 months of age. Ella is now convalescing from typhoid fever.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Christian Reformed church with Rev. Van Dyke in charge. Burial was made beside her son in Pleasant Hill cemetery. The family certainly have the sympathy of all. The Dirksen family has lived around Ireton on farms at different times but came here last spring from near Carnes, Iowa. A number of neighbors gathered some days ago and sawed the winter's supply of wood for them.
