From the Boyden Reporter, January 12, 1933:

HANNES REYELTS

The late Johannes Reyelts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Reyelts, was born on the 5th of December 1887, in Westerhom county of Catenbergs, Hanover, Germany, and baptized soon after his birth by Rev. Woelber. Being in his third year of age he emigrated with his parents from the old country to make their home in the United States. At their arrival they moved to a farm located in Lyon county, where the family remained for 7 years. Then the family moved to a farm northwest of Boyden, on which at the present time John S. Meyer and his family lives.

Here the deceased spent the greater part of his boyhood. He went to the Christian school conducted by Rev. Huetke. After he had received catechetical instruction his pastor confirmed him together with the rest of confirmants on Palm Sunday in 1901. After his confirmation he stayed at his parental home and helped in the farm work. When he was of age he joined the St. John’s congregation, whose faithful member he has been until his untimely demise.

Three years later, 1912, he joined hands in holy matrimony with Miss Dorothy Mueller. This union was blessed with seven children, to-wit: Will, Paulina, Hilda, Albert, Anna, Mathilda and Esther. When active farming the departed dwelt with his beloved ones on the well known farm near our church, one-half mile southwest where he remained until he passed away ten minutes before midnight, January 4th.

This untimely death was caused by malignant anemia which started two years ago. It is self-evident that all available medical help had been employed, but apparently without success. Finally the doctors in Sioux City resorted to blood transfusion several times to prolong his life. At the beginning of the New Year it seemed as though he would be on the way of recovery, but on the second day of January it was apparent that the beginning of the end had come and did come sooner than we had expected. Quietly he passed away, so quietly that even his beloved ones were not aware of what had happened.

He leaves to mourn their loss the bereaved wife and aforementioned 7 children, his mother and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mueller; 4 sisters: Mrs. H. Reyelts, Mrs. John E. Meyer, Mrs. G. Glasnapp and Miss Marie Reyelts, and many other relatives. He reached the age of 45 years and 20 days. May he rest in peace.—Contributed.
