From the Chariton Leader, August 8, 1933:

Horse’s Kick Fatal to Youth

Albert Kratch[sic], 22-year-old farmer, who made his home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kracht, southwest of Rock Rapids, died in the hospital at that place Wednesday as the result of severe head injuries received on Thursday, when he was kicked by a horse.

The accident occurred at the farm home of Pete Kracht, a brother, who lives three miles east of Rock Rapids. Young Kracht was working in the barn at the time of his misfortune and it was there that relatives found him some time later. He was crumpled on the floor with an ugly wound on the right side of his head where the horse’s hoof had struck him and another wound on the back of his head where that member struck a two-by-four as he fell, or was thrown by the force of the blow.

Kracht was taken to the Rock Rapids hospital where his wounds were dressed, and then was removed to Hull, where he died Wednesday.
