SHELDON—Scott Daniel Adkins passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sheldon, IA, after a long battle with cancer.

A visitation with family present will be held at Sheldon United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 13, at 9 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to stay after for lunch.

Scott’s family requests that any memorials in his memory be designated to the Village Northwest Unlimited Capital Campaign.

Scott was born on Dec. 26, 1957, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Donald and Eileen “Joyce” (De Bruin) Adkins. Scott spent his childhood in Newkirk, Iowa, and graduated from Floyd Valley in Alton in 1976. His claim to fame while in high school was scoring five touchdowns in one game vs. Royal, Iowa, and still holds the school record. Scott was married to Kris (Capper) McGuire in 1980 in Newkirk, Iowa, and they were blessed with their daughter, Haviland. After that marriage ended, Scott moved to Tucson, AZ where he met Judy. They were married on May 9, 1987, and were blessed with Hilary and Hayden. In 2001 Scott, Judy and their two children moved back to Northwest Iowa. Scott was residing in Sheldon at the time of his death.

Survived by his wife Judy (Fuller) Adkins. Loving father to Haviland (Steve) Brick, Hilary (Tyler) Halverson, and Hayden (Tysa) Adkins. Adoring Papa to Mariana and Tierney Brick, Keegan and Makinley Adkins, and Gemma Halverson. Survived by his parents, Donald and Joyce Adkins; brother, Paul (Carol) Adkins; mother-in-law, Ruth Fuller; former wife, Kris McGuire; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Emma Adkins and Ellis and Winnie (Bug and Wink) De Bruin, and his father-in-law, Sam Fuller.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Sanford Sheldon Hospital for their compassionate care during Scott’s final days; and Sanford Sheldon Hospice staff for their dedication to Scott and our family.
