RITES MONDAY P.M. AT ALTON FOR MRS. DORRIS SORGDRAGER

Mrs. Kate (Dorris Sorgdrager), early resident here died in her sleep December 18th at her home, to which she had returned some weeks ago after receiving hospital and nursing care for a number of months.

She was born September 20, 1880 in The Netherlands and came to the United States in 1888 with her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Veen. The family settled on a farm near Hospers.

In 1903 she was married to Dorris Sorgdrager of Alton. One son, John was born to this union. He died in 1944 and her husband passed on in 1955. Three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two brothers, Case Veen of Sheldon and William Veen of Minnesota and a large number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Service Monday afternoon at the First Reformed Church, Reverend Meyers officiating.

Pallbearers were Dick Veen, John Veen, Herbert Veen, George Mills, Oscar Douma and Peter Keizer. Interment was in Nassau Township Cemetery west of Alton.

Among those here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Watson of Des Moines, Mrs. William Gash of Polk City, Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Martin of Sioux Falls, members of the Veen family from Sheldon and Minnesota, Mrs. Wayne Boston of Sioux City. The latter’s mother, who is the daughter-in-law of Mrs. Sorgdrager, was also expected from California, where she remarried some years after the death of her first husband, John Sorgdrager.

Mrs. Sorgdrager was a semi-invalid for some years before her death but was always cheerful and friendly, and it was a pleasure to visit with her. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and devoted relatives.
