Died: March 7, 1936

Mrs. Mary Sorgdrager, long time resident of Alton and vicinity, passed away at her home here Saturday at the age of 64 after a long illness with diabetes and complications. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Alton, Tuesday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Reverend E. Van Engelenhoven. Services were at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock at the church, with interment at Nassau Township Cemetery west of town.

Mrs. Sorgdrager was born in the came to this country with her parents at the age of two in June 1873. In 1883 the family moved from Chicago to Sioux County. She was the daughter of John and Thresia (Rep) Sol, deceased.

She was married in 1892 to Cornelius Sorgdrager at Alton and is survived by six children, one son, John, preceding his mother in death at the age of 22, passing away in October 1918. The surviving children are Ed of Alton, Mrs. Peter Keizer of Le Mars, Casey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lynn, Harry and Robert, all of Alton. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Among those from away who came to the funeral were Mr. Henry Sol of Edgerton, Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dove of Sibley.

Faced with difficulties and trouble during her lifetime, even in death the path to her last resting place was nearly impossible with deep ruts in the road making it nearly impossible for cars to travel. The minister’s car, leading the procession to the cemetery, had to be pulled out once when the clearance stalled the car. Mrs. Sorgdrager was a woman of integrity, devoted to her home and family. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Alton, and will be missed by her friends and those near and dear to her.
