Ernest August Sohl, the son of Henry and Meta Ahrens Sohl, was born in Sioux County, Iowa, on January 18, 1909.

He received his formal education in the Sioux County Schools, and living in this community throughout his life time except for three years when he served in the Armed Forces during World War II.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and remained a faithful member of St. Paul congregation until the Lord called him to his eternal rest.

After returning from the service of his country in the mid 1940’s, he moved to the Otto Hinsch farm home where he engaged in farming until his death. Besides being a member of the church he also belonged to the American Legion.

In the month of April of this year, he suddenly became ill and on April 24 he had surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sioux City, followed by surgery again at the Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City. He then returned home to receive loving care. Several weeks ago he was again hospitalized at the MPC Hospital, Rock Rapids, where he remained until the Lord called him from this life at 10:30 P.M., August 1, at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Those preceding him in death were his parents, and one sister, Helena.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his stepmother, Mrs. Anna Sohl, Hull; four sisters: Adele, Mrs. August Breuer, St. Paul, Minnesota; Alma, Mrs. Martin Woelber, Hull; Martha, Mrs. Alfred Riebeling, Doon Henrietta, Mrs. Arnold Behrens, George; three brothers: Paul and Louis, both of Hull; and Alfred of George; one stepsister, Mathilda, Mrs. Louis Hinsch of George; four step brothers: Albert and Elmer Schmidt, Luverne, Minnesota; Arthur Schmidt, Omaha, Nebraska; and Vernon Schmidt, Wilmar, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
