DOLPHIN, DEKRUIF, MEYER

From the Sioux County Capital, February 25, 1993:

Henry Dolphin, 84, Sioux City, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1993 at a medical center in Irvine, Calif., after a brief illness while visiting his daughter in Lake Forest, Calif. Services were held Tuesday at Christy Morningside Funeral Home. Dean Swenson and Kenneth Wahlin officiated. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Dolphin was born Jan. 29, 1909 near Hospers and attended country school. He married Catherine DeKruif Dec. 20, 1972 in Canton, S.D. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1942. She died June 3, 1988 while visiting her daughter in Redwood Falls, Minn. He owned and operated the Siouxland Burial Vault Co. from 1953 until his retirement at age 65. Prior to that he worked for Cudahy Packing Co.

Survivors include a son and his wife Robert and Jeannie Dolphin of Sioux City; two daughters, Shirley and her husband Charles Duckett of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Coriene Banner of Lake Forest, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Hulst of rural Austin, Minn., and Erma Gross of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by six brothers.

Family tree information on Ancestry.com gives his parents as Wichers (William) Dolphin (1870-1935) and Maggie Meyer (1881-1955).

His World War II draft registration card (Oct 1940) shows him a resident of Hospers, employed by Wm Bloemendaal, height 5’8”, weight 155 pounds, light complexion, blonde hair, blue eyes.
