Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church at Alton Saturday for Herman Schwarz, 70, who died May 8 following a long illness.

Services were conducted by the Reverend Raymond Wieling and burial was made in St. Mary Church Cemetery at Alton.

Mr. Schwarz was born at Granville August 3, 1897. He was married to Margaret Miller August 25, 1931. Mr. Schwarz served many years as custodian of his church and school.

Survivors include his widow; five daughters - Mrs. Donald Wichers of Orange City, Iowa, Mrs. Donal Malcolm of Alexandria, Iowa, Mrs. Donald Dougherty of Granville, Iowa, Mrs. Orlin Moen of Fargo, North Dakota, Miss Rose Marie at home; three sons - Thomas of Worthington, Minnesota, Clifford of Le Mars, and LeRoy at home; three brothers; five sisters; 16 grandchildren
