MRS. KLAAS BOER DIED DECORATION DAY

Mrs. Klaas Boer passed away at her home in Rock Valley Tuesday afternoon, following an illness with pneumonia although at her advanced age she had not been strong for some time past. Mrs Boer had attained the advanced age [of] 71 years and 8 months.

Mrs. Boer was born in Holland where she grew to womanhood. She came to this country in the year of 1901. For a number of years she lived at Doon, later moving to Rock Valley where she has resided for the past several years. Her husband died in 1917.

Mrs. Boer is survived by nine children and three step children, twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The children are: Siebert Schreuder, Netherlands; Albert Schreuder, Doon; John Schreuder, Rock Valley; Allice Kooima, Rock Valley; Rena De Jong, Doon; Anna Zwak, Sioux City; Everett Boer, Rock Valley; Jake Boer, Alvord; Gerrit Boer, Rock Valley. The step children are: Arie Boer, Sioux Falls; John Boer, Rock Valley; and Anishie Zwart, Netherlands.

Funeral services will be held at the home Friday at 1:30 and at the Christian Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock.

Her death certificate has Jacoba Boer, widow of Klaas Boer, resident of Rock Valley for 30 years; born Sept. 28, 1861 in Holland; parents Syblot Jan Dykema and Albertje Meyer; died at 5 p.m. May 30, 1933; cause, right lower lobar pneumonia, onset May 27, 1933.

There is also a civil marriage index record for bride Jacobje Dijkema, age 25, a maidservant, born in Sint Annen gem. Ten Boer, parents Sijbold Jans Dijkema and Albertje Meijer; groom Hindrik Schreuder, age 39, a manservant, born in Ten Boer, parents Jan Hindriks Schreuder and Pieterke Jans van Zanten; married 20 May 1887. Brief family tree information on Genealogieonline.nl indicates that Hindrik died March 15, 1892 in Thesinge (Gem. Ten Boer) at age 43, and that Jacobje Dijkema married her second husband, Klaas Boer, on 27 July 1893 at Ten Boer at age 31.
