Janice Schuetz, 61, of Alton, Iowa died unexpectedly at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa after injuries resulting from a farm accident Thursday, May 21, 2009.

Janice was born March 29, 1948, Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Maxine (Kilker) Rolling. She was raised and educated in the Oyens and Remsen area. She attended St. Catherine Grade School and graduated from Remsen St. Mary High School in 1966. After high school, Janice did domestic work in the Remsen area. She married Lyle Schuetz on July 27, 1968 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, Iowa. The couple made their home near Alton. Janice loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She raised chickens to sell eggs and was well known as the egg lady in the Alton area. She loved gardening but her passion was refinishing old furniture and going to auctions.

Funeral Services were at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery in Alton, Fisch Funeral Home and Monument in Remsen handled arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle of Alton, Iowa; daughter, Kay and her husband Jason Huff of Fremont, Nebraska; Mike and his wife Gina Schuetz of Hospers, Iowa; son Dan and his wife Sonia Schuetz of Remsen, Iowa; son Kenneth Schuetz of Alton, Iowa; daughter Jean and her husband Jared Block of Alton, Iowa; grandchildren: Brooke and Bryan Huff, Nathaniel, Taylor and Nick Schuetz, Emilee and Brianna Schuetz, Elizabeth and Raphael Block; sister, Marilyn and her husband Marvin Maly of Onawa, Iowa; sister, Marie Benedix of Correctionville, Iowa; JoAnn and her husband Mark Sudtelgte of Remsen, Iowa; brother Russell and his wife Pam Rolling of Oyens, Iowa; brother Jim Rolling of Glennwood, Iowa; brother Larry and his wife LeAn Rolling of Le Mars, Iowa; brother Kirk Rolling of Le Mars, Iowa; brother Glenn and his wife Julie Rolling of Le Mars, Iowa; brother-in-law Rich and his wife Beth Schuetz of New Castle, Wyoming.

Janice was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Church Guild and St. Mary Rosary Society all of Alton, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Nathaniel and Taylor Schuetz, Talon Penning, Jason Benedix, Matt Schuetz, Dave Rolling.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Rolling, father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Rita Schuetz, brother-in-law, Robert Benedix, sister-in-law Darlene Schuetz.

Visitation was after 4:00 P.M. on Monday, May 25, 2009. There was a parish Rosary at 5:00 P.M. and a vigil prayer service at 7 P.M., all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
