Mrs. H.J. Schut, who passed away March 21st at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lou Van’t Hof of Newkirk, was a resident of Sioux Center for nearly twenty-five years. Many friends from here went to Newkirk to attend the funeral which was a large one. Reverend Haverkmp, pastor of the Central Reformed Church of which Mrs. Schut was a member, preached the funeral sermon, and Reverend Roetman, pastor of the Newkirk Church, assisted with the services.

Mrs. Schut was born in the Netherlands and lived there until after the death of her first husband, William Klein. Four of her children also passed away before she came to the United States, a widow with her four remaining children. The family settled at Pella in 1881 and lived there until seven years later when Mrs. Klein was married to H.J. Schut of Newkirk. Mr. Schut died about 25 years ago, when his wife and family came to Sioux Center to make their home. Had she lived until May 21st, Mrs. Schut would have been 80 years old. She was a devoted mother and wife, active in good works and the children have the sympathy of many friends.

The three living children are Albert Klein of Hospers, Mrs. Lou Van’t Hof, Newkirk and G. Klein, Sioux Center. The youngest son Ben Klein of Hospers, passed away a few years ago.
