Douglas M. Schulz, 60, of Le Mars passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

His funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ireton, Iowa. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5:00 p.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday night at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at the church from noon until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Schulz, Brian Schulz, Jason Peters, Tom Schulz, Rod Schulz, and Marcos Lane.

Douglas Melvin Schulz was born October 6, 1951 in Hawarden, Iowa to Melvin and Virginia (Sanow) Schulz. Doug was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Craig and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church rural Ireton. As a young man, Doug worked for Alton Well and Concrete and for the past 30 years he has worked in the meat processing industry having worked for Harker's, Tyson Meats, and George's Quick-to-Fix-Foods. Doug retired in 2002 when diagnosed with COPD.

Doug and Judy Kay Heien Peters were united in marriage on May 21, 1994 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars.

He enjoyed working on cars and had the gift to listen to a engine and tell what was wrong and how to correct the problem. He also enjoyed riding motorcycle and being outdoors. A great joy for Doug was having his grandchildren around and teasing them. His family was always very important to him.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Judy of Le Mars; his children: Brian Schulz, Kevin Schulz, Violet Lane and her husband Marcos, and Jason Peters and his wife Jessica all of Le Mars; his siblings: Margaret Huls of Le Mars, Nancy Schulz of Le Mars, Thomas Schulz and his wife Maria of Le Mars, and Rodney Schulz and his wife Linda of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Schulz, Rylie Moon, Tristan Hansen, Allyson Lane, Jaydon Lane, Kaylie Peters, and Riley Peters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Virginia (Sanow) Schulz; a sister in infancy, Kim; a brother Roger Schulz; and a brother-in-law, Dan Huls.
