On Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the homo of Mrs. L. L. Harlan occurred the death of her mother^ Mrs. Persis Mason. After a me of nearly 77 years she fell asleep quietly to awake in another and brighter world. She was born June 25, 1829, in. Frankfort, Herkimer count}', N. Y., and in 1831 moved with her parents to New Hartford, Qneida county, N. Y. On March 11, 1856 she was married to Levi Mason and lived in Clayville, Oneida county, N. Y. until Sept. 1881 when she and her husband moved to Hastings, Iowa. During .the last thirteen years of her life, with the exception of one year which she spent with her daughter, Mrs. Greiner, in Pioneer, Iowa, she has been a resident of Hawarden. Since the death of Mr. Mason in 1892 her home has been with one or the other of her daughters Her whole life was one, of thoughtful devotion to others and was full of gentleness and kindliness. All who came into touch with her gave her that love which such a life never fails to call forth. During the last years of her life which held so many days of pain and suffering she was an inspiration to all who knew her by her self forgetfulness. Her keen intellect was alert to the last and her interest in all the large affairs of the world never waved. Her friends have found a joy in trying to show to her and to her family something of their appreciation of what her life has meant to them, and her. children will always carry with them grateful memories of the kindly and helpful words and acts which helped to cheer the closing days of her life.
