Born: March 4,1851
Died: October 25, 1926

Daniel Henry Schumacher, a resident of this city for about eight years passed away at his home here on Monday, October 25th. Mr. Schumacher was one of the pioneer residents of Northwest Iowa, coming to this section of the country in the year 1880, where he located on a farm with his parents in Sioux County. In 1919 he moved from his farm in Sioux County to George, where he made his home up to the time of his death.

Deceased was born in Ellerbuch Germany, March 4, 1851 and died at his home in George, Iowa, October 25, 1926 at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 21 days.

In the year of 1875 he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Magrete Luehrs. To this union was blessed with 12 children, six sons and six daughters. The six sons and one daughter and his beloved wife, preceded him in death. The latter, March 4, 1925. After the mother had been taken out of the home he often felt quite forsaken even though he was privileged above many others, having had the very best of care, which he received from the hands of his beloved daughters.

In 1880 he came to America with his family and made his home in Sioux County, Iowa, on a farm, from which he retired in the spring of 1919 and moved to George.

Mr. Schumacher had not been so hale and strong for the past several years due to the oncoming of old age and his having gone through a very serious siege of illness less than a year ago, left his physical condition much impaired. Being able, however, to be about again, little did his loved ones believe the end of his life being so near.

Mr. Schumacher learned to know and love the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he revered and served as best he knew. “Jesus will not leave me,” being among the last words his lips uttered.

Early on Monday morning, October 25th, he answered the summons of death, closing his eyes as in peaceful slumber to await the trumpet call of the resurrection of the body. He leaves to mourn his death, five daughters: Anna, Mrs. Peter Kruse; Catherine, Mrs. Willie Davids and their families; Minnie, Johannah and Alvena remaining in the parental home; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, October 28th, from the Presbyterian Church in charge of Reverend A.E. Boell, assisted by Reverend J.G. Theilken. The love tokens expressed in the floral display were most beautiful. The remains were laid to rest on the family lot in the Lutheran Cemetery eight miles south of George.
