The Funeral Mass for Joseph H. Schumacher, 59, of Breda, Iowa was read at 1:30 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville on Saturday, December 2. The Reverend John Schissel officiated with burial in the parish cemetery under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen. Military ties were inducted by the Granville Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pallbearers were Arnold Hoefler, Andrew Penning, Murl Tonsfeldt, Harry Johnson, Allie Lenz and Francis Ueveling.

Mr. Schumacher was injured in a car truck accident near Templeton during the Tuesday noon hour, November 28 and died in a Manning, Iowa hospital a short time later. He was born December 13, 1912 at Granville to Joseph and Anna (Meyers) Schumacher, the third of fourteen children. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School in Granville and graduated from high school at Alton.

He was married to Marcelle Simon of Luxembourg, Europe on June 10, 1950 at Sioux City. They lived in Granville until February of this year, when they moved to Breda. He worked for his father in the blacksmith shop after graduation and in partnership with his brother, Ambrose after 1948, until 1970 when he became a meat inspector for the State Department of Agriculture.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church Men’s Choir for more than 25 years and was a member of the Granville volunteer fire department for about 40 years. He was a charter member of the Granville V.F.W. Post.

He is survived by his wife; two sons Raymond, a senior at St. John’s University at Collegeville, Minnesota and Joseph Jr. at home; and one daughter Kathy, at home; four sisters (Jeanette) Mrs. Earle Kiele and (Susan) Mrs. Sylvester Myerchin both of Sioux City; (Clara) Mrs. Joe Harling of Fair Oaks, California and (Martha) Mrs. Emil Bader of Sacramento, California; six brothers: Nick, Jack, Martin, and Herbert all of Sioux City; Raphael of Minneapolis and Ambrose of Granville.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1956; his mother in 1967 and a sister (Mary Ann) Mrs. Fred Els in 1958 and two sisters in infancy.
