Mrs. Bernard Roelofs, Sioux Center, Called by Death

Mrs. Ben Roelofs, Sr. passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Spenkelink, early Saturday morning, April 17th, 1943, at the age of 76 years.

She had been suffering for some time due to heart trouble and also suffered a stroke the week before.

Left to mourn her departure are the husband, Mr. Bernard Roelofs, and seven children: Mrs. John Spenkelink of Sioux Center; Mrs. Leonard Wildeman of Rock Rapids; Mrs. William Niesink of Sioux Center; Mrs. Henry Van Aartsen of Rock Rapids; Mrs. Arie Wildeman of Dexter, Minnesota; Mr. Ben Roelofs of Bellnower, California; and Pvt. Hein Roelofs of Camp Hale, Colorado.

Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Spenkelink home and at the First Reformed Church at Middleburg, Iowa, with the Reverend Kolenbrander officiating. Interment was made at the Sioux Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Roelofs was born in the Netherlands and came to America about 23 years ago, living at Middleburg for some time, as he was janitor of the church there. The last six years was spent at the home of her daughter and family in Sioux Center.

Pvt. Hein Roelofs arrived here from Camp Hale, Colorado, the past week and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Roelofs arrived on Monday evening to attend the funeral services.
