FRACTURED SPINE IS CAUSE OF HIS DEATH--A FALL FROM A LADDER CAUSE OF FATAL DEATH; FUNERAL TO BE HELD AT ROCK VALLEY, IOWA

Clarence E. Riley passed away Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. after suffering for five weeks from a fractured spine, received from a fall while he was engaged in cutting down some trees. The accident happened November 18th.

Mr. Riley, who had been a resident of Trent for a short time previous to the accident, living with his mother, was taken to the hospital after the accident, where he received the care of skilled physicians and of trained nurses. But he was paralyzed from his waist down and nothing could be done for him except to make him as easy as possible. For some time he seemed to hold his own, but recently he has failed rapidly until the end came. His sister, Mrs. R.L. Howell of Denver, Colorado, arrived here November 21st, and remained until the end came.

Mr. Riley was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa, June 28, 1900, and at his death was 31 years, five months and 20 days old. His younger days were spent in Rock Valley. He lived four years at Harrisburg, South Dakota, and moved to Trent November 1st, with his mother, Alice (Bigelow) Riley, only 18 days before he was hurt. Besides his mother he leaves six sisters and five brothers.

The body was taken to Canton Wednesday afternoon, a brother who lives there coming up, with the undertaker, and taking the corpse back with them. The funeral will be held at Rock Valley, Iowa where he will be buried.
