Alton Democrat of Saturday Nov 26th 1921.

Dr Gerrit Langen who has been ill for some months passed quietly away Monday Nov 21, at 8:45 p.m. at the advanced age of 73 years. De. Langen was a veterinarian by profession. He was born and reared in Oosterwolde Gelderland Netherlands, and his parents were farmers and of sterling worth to the community. While in the Netherlands he married Miss Elizabeth Van Dyke.

Twenty eight years ago he immigrated to America coming direct to Sioux Center where he has always made his home with the exception of two years spent in the Netherlands after the death of his first wife fifteen years ago. Dr. Langen was about 41 years of age when he first came to Sioux Center.

Some time after the death of his first wife he returned to the Netherlands where he married Miss Cornelia Hoogesleger and the couple lived for two years in the same house in which Dr. Langen was born. This house was sixty years old at the time of its occupancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Langen would have been married ten years next March if he had lived.
Dr Langen was a jolly big hearted soul and his smile was always a part of the home as well as extended towards the road where the crowd pass by. Hi friends did not forsake him n the day of his need but assisted the wife in every way to care for his physical needs while sick; the church ministered to this spiritual needs until he was safe in the care of his Great Friend and the Father always ready to do the great work, gave him a new heart and Dr. Langen bade goodbye to this world at peace with God and man.

The Rev. The Rev. A. Haverkamp and two elders were called in by Mr. Langen on Armistice Day and he united with the church of his choice. Last May he was not well and kept failing in health but it was discovered that he had a cancer and from that time on he kept up a losing fight until he died. He was able to sit up during the day last Friday when he took to his bed in the middle of the afternoon from which lie did not recover:

He leaves a widow and two daughters to mourn their loss. Thy daughters are Mrs. Peter Wulhof of Hatfield, Minn., and Mrs. E. Vander Hoop of Sioux Center.

The funeral took place from the Central Reformed church, the pastor Rev. Haverkamp preaching the sermon. The funeral was at 1:30 at the house on Friday and 2:00 at the church. Charles Vander Ploeg was the undertaker. The pall bearers were A. Vander Stoep, A Arendsen, H. Kickman, H. Evenhuis, Peter Mouw and G. A. Tyler. The choir furnished special numbers for the occasion and flowers were in evidence. The sympathy of the entire community is with the mourning friends.
