Mrs. Bert (Merina) Reuter, 81, of Alton died Wednesday, May 14, 1997 at the Orange City Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Reverend James Tigges officiated. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton under the direction of the Fish Funeral Home, Remsen.

Merina was born March 7, 1916 in Alton, the daughter of Matt and Susan (Konz) Probst. She was raised in the Alton area and attended St. Mary’s Acdemy at Alton. She married Bert Reuter on February 28, 1838 at Pilot Grove, Missouri where they made their home. In 1941 they moved to Alton. In 1945 they moved to her father’s farm near Alton where they farmed until retiring in 1969 and moving into Alton. Mr. Reuter died November 14, 1979. Merina had been a resident of the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen since October 9, 1996.

Mrs. Reuter was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Church Guild and St, Mary’s Rosary Society.

Survivors include her four daughters, Marjorie Reuter of Alton, Carol Klein of Le Mars, Linda and her husband Lawrence Hagar of Fort Dodge, and Mary and her husband Henry Goebel of Escondido, California; two sons and their wives, James and Caralee and John and Cheryl all of Lancaster, California; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Reuter of Alton; 22 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald; and a great-grandson, Brad Reuter.
