Mr. Erwin Goslinga, age 80, of Hospers, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 5, at 11:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Aaron Gonzalez will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. There will be a family prayer service on Monday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the funeral home.

Erwin Dale was born on May 2, 1938, in Hospers, the son of John and Sylvia (Vander Beek) Goslinga. He was raised in rural Hospers, where he attended a country school through the eighth grade and graduated from the Hospers High School.

On February 18, 1959, he married Johanna A. Visser at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. They made their home in Hospers their whole married life, except for the two years he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, with the United States Army. On March 13, 2015, he moved to the Pleasance Acres Care Center in Hull, and on July 9, 2015, to the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mr. Goslinga was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he was a deacon. He was also on the Hospers Christian School and Unity Christian School boards of directors.

“Erv” worked in a packing plant and a feed mill. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 59 years, “Jo”; his children and their spouses, Barbara and Larry Honebrink, of New Castle, Wyoming; Bruce and Renae Goslinga, of Ripon, California; Amy and Dave Van Roekel, of Orange City; and Jeremy and Amy Goslinga, of Sheldon; nine grandchildren, Jesse Lefever, of Boulder, Colorado; Jacob Lefever, serving in the military in Kuwait; Tyler Goslinga, and his wife, Kaitlyn; Jared Goslinga, and his wife, Kaylie; Jordan Goslinga, and his wife, Rachel, all of Ripon; Hannah, Nicole, and Abby Van Roekel, all of Orange City; and Justice Goslinga, of Sheldon; two great-grandchildren, Nash and Liam; three sisters, Clara, and her husband, Wilbert Van Gelder, of Tucson, Arizona; Sylvia Henning, of Le Mars; and Betty Roos, of Sioux Falls; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Goslinga and Jean Goslinga, both of Orange City; and Jo’s four siblings and their spouses, Fann and Wes Westra, of Ireton; Cornie and Anita Visser, of Belen, New Mexico; Harriet and Glenn Kooiman, of Leota, Minnesota; and Freddy and Al Vande Kamp of Hospers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son in infancy, Douglas Goslinga; his step-mother, Ann (Van Driel) Goslinga; a sister in infancy, Elizabeth Goslinga; two brothers, Stewart Goslinga and John Goslinga, Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Roger Henning and Harlan Roos; his parents-in-law, Case and Winnie Visser; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Cora and Dick Prins.

Memorials may be directed to the Unity Christian High School, the Ripon Christian Schools, or the charity of your choice.
