From the Rock Valley Bee, January 9, 1931:

MOURN DEATH OF BABY GIRL

The fifteen months old baby girl, Pearl, of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Kooiman passed away suddenly last Thursday following a few hours illness with convulsions. Mr. and Mrs. Kooiman have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley Monday afternoon, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Kooiman has been sick and unable to be at his place of business for the past two weeks, but is improving now and will soon be up and around again.

From the Alton Democrat, January 9, 1931, Rock Valley news:

The baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kooiman died Friday after a series of convulsions on the day she died. Up to the time the child went into convulsions it was not known she was ailing. Funeral services were held at the Christian Ref. church Monday afternoon and burial was made in Valley View cemetery. Mr. Kooiman himself is a very sick man and was unable to attend the funeral of his child.

Her death certificate has Pearl Kooiman, born Oct. 11, 1929 in Iowa; parents Walter C. Kooiman, born in Holland, and Dena Vugteveen, born in Iowa; died at 7 p.m. January 1, 1931; cause, convulsions; contributory cause, pneumonia.
