From the Boyden Reporter, July 23, 1931:

YOUNG BOYDEN FARMER INJURED IN TERRIBLE ACCIDENT

Albert Rons, twenty-two years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rons of near Boyden is near death as the result of injuries received early this week. He was assisting with loading hay on his father’s farm and had been working in the hay mouw. The heat of the hay mouw interior forced him to seek the outside air. He threw the pitchfork down to the lower floor where it remained with the prongs on the ground. Just as he started down the ladder he lost his hold and plunged downward. The handle of the fork caught him and forced its way into his intestines. His screams were heard by his father and he was rushed to a Sheldon hospital, where surgeons were called from out of town to perform an operation. His condition at this time is reported to be critical and gangrene has set in, which makes it all the more evident that he is near death.

Albert Rons was always well and favorably known in this community and his misfortune has been a shock to all who know him. He was employed by Koooiman’s Store last summer as truck driver and salesman.
