From the Rock Valley Bee, October 31, 1930:

DEATH OF FORMER RESIDENT

The Le Mars Sentinel gives the following account of the death of Miss Minnie Lynch, a former resident of this vicinity.

“Following a long illness due to asthmatic trouble and other complications, Miss Minnie Lynch, a well known resident of Le Mars, died Saturday afternoon at her home, 209 Fifth Avenue SW, at the age of 59 years. Miss Lynch was an instructor in the schools of Sioux county for many years before coming to Le Mars to make her home.

“She was born at Mount Forest, Ontario, Canada, January 4, 1872, and when a child came to Ireton, Iowa. Her parents were among the early settlers at Rock Valley, where Miss Lynch grew up, attended school and after a course at college took up the profession of teaching, and taught in the rural schools in Sioux county until her health forbade further work of a confining and arduous nature. She was successful in the vocation and many of her former pupils can testify to her ability and the good influence she brought into their lives. Miss Lynch made her home in Le Mars in later years and had many friends. She lived a noble life, was unselfish, self-sacrificing and enacted the role of mother to nephews and nieces early left orphans.

“She was the youngest child in a family of ten children and all her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Her death is sincerely mourned by her nephews and nieces who are Will and Joseph Lynch, of this city, Thos. Lynch, of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Sabina Blackburn, of Sioux City, Judd Stack, of Omaha, James and Mary Stack, of Sioux City, John and Josephine Lynch, of Rock Valley, and Catherine Lynch, of Sunnyside, Wash.

“Funeral services were held at St. James church in this city Monday morning and were largely attended by friends and neighbors. Rev. Father L. J. Cooper officiated at the mass. The interment was made in St. Joseph cemetery.”

Her death certificate adds her parents, Jermahia Lynch and Julia Ferritor, both born in Ireland; spent 15 years as a teacher and last worked at that profession in 1915; resident of Le Mars for 15 years; died at 3 p.m. October 25, 1930; cause of death pulmonary tuberculosis; immediate cause pulmonary infarct.

The 1881 Census of Canada shows her father’s name as Jeremiah, as does his entry in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.
