Two youngsters are dead and their seven year old sister critically injured as the result of a car truck accident about 5 P.M. Thursday on county black top road K-30 2 ½ miles south of Ireton. Dead at the scene was Crosley Paul Ranger, 4, one of four occupants of the car was driven by the lad’s mother, Mrs. Ted (Paulette) Ranger, 26, who is reported to be in satisfactory condition.

Franette Marie Ranger, 8, died Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City. Tonie Rae, 7, remained in critical condition Tuesday in the Hospital’s intensive care unit.

The driver of the truck was Gregory Darrell Vreeman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Vreeman of Ireton. He was uninjured as was a passenger, a young boy, riding with him.

According to investigating officials, the truck, traveling south, was making a left turn into a field when the car, traveling north, came over the rise in the road and plowed into a Roorda wagon which the truck was towing. The three children were in the rear seat of the car. Mrs. Ranger was pinned in the front seat.

The Ireton rescue squad and an ambulance from Hawarden were called to the scene and the ambulance took the members of the Ranger family to the Le Mars Hospital where they were given first aid treatment and then sent on to Sioux City for hospitalization at St. Joseph.

Vreeman has been charged with failure to yield one-half of the roadway.

Double funeral services for the Ranger children were held Monday at 1:30 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Le Mars, with the Reverend Lowell Boettcher officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, under the direction of Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden.

Franette Marie was born January 30, 1962 at Orange City; Crosley Paul, July 20, 1966 at Le Mars.

Survivors in addition to the parents and sister include grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vanderham of Ireton; grandmother, Mrs. Dona Bailey, Manson, Iowa; great-grandmother, Mrs. Esther Kluge, San Diego, California; and great-grandfather, Emil Vanderham, Sioux City.
