Mrs. Alta Mae Morgan, 86, peacefully passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at her home from heart disease. A Celebration of Alta’s life will be held 1pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Chapel of Walnut Ridge Community. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA at a later date.

Alta was born March 27, 1932 in Hawarden, IA to William Joseph and Mildred (Knapp) Murphy. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. She married Merritt Charles “Herb” Morgan in 1950. They settled in Sioux City after Mr. Morgan finished his service in the US Navy. She had 6 children. She was an active member of Mayflower Congregational Church until moving to Clive in 2009. During their marriage the Morgan’s were very active in the Abu Bekr Shrine Foot Patrol. Alta was active with Aids awareness and a lay minister performing many church services, marriages and funerals. A vivacious lady that never met a stranger, was a loving generous daughter, wife, mother and friend. Always larger than life, she will be missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Survivors include her children: Paula (Col. William) Levay of Johnston, Gregg Morgan of San Antonio, TX, Sheryl (Dr. Doug) Nespory of Kearney, MO, Matthew (Irene) Morgan of San Antonio, TX, Todd (Cally) Morgan of Sioux City; grandchildren: Jason Morgan, Dr. Austin (Mandy) Lehr, Brett (Tammy) Levay, Ryan (Julie) Levay, Brittany Morgan, Ashley Morgan, Kayla (Lloyd) Hanneman, David Morgan; great grandchildren: Rylee, Regan, Reese, Rowan and Rhett Lehr, Aden Hernandez, Brooke Levay, Mavrick Morgan, Landon Hanneman, Henry Levay; sister, Aggie (Dan) Cowell of Payson, AZ. Alta was preceded in death by her husband in 1991 after 42 years of marriage as well as her son, David Merritt in 1992.
