JOHN OSTERKAMP DIES AT AGE 77

John Osterkamp, Sr., 77, who resided 10 miles northeast of Hawarden, died Thursday night at the Hudson Hospital after a long illness. He had been in and out of the hospital several times.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Williams of the First Baptist Church of Hawarden officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton.

He was born in Germany January 26, 1880, and came to America with his parents at the age of 12. They located in Ireton vicinity and he spent most of his life in the Ireton and Hawarden area. He married Miss Henrietta Hussman of Ireton September 7, 1902. After his marriage he lived at Garner, Iowa, for a time and later in Minnesota before he returned to this vicinity. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by the widow; four sons, John, Jr., of Hawarden, Edward of Ireton, Richard of Vermillion, South Dakota and William of El Monte, California; seven daughters, Mrs. Keith Morehead of Hawarden, Mrs. Paul Nielsen of Hudson, Mrs. Earl Oulman and Mrs. Harold Harris of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Ted Bastendorf of Lincoln, Missouri, Mrs. Cletus Pitzenberger of Parnell, Missouri, and Mrs. Burley Waldrop of Hanlontown, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Kune Gerling of Ireton and Mrs. Grace Panhoff of Garner, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Loren Heck, and one brother preceded him in death.
