In respect to Reverend Martin Ossewaarde, who passed away last Saturday morning, a few lines must be given of the History of the man-father, pastor.

Reverend Ossenwaarde was born in the Netherlands, November 11, 1865. The 12th of August 1882 they left the shores of Holland and arrived in New York on the 26th. In his mother country he had made some progress in his studies which he pursued further at Hope College, Michigan. In six years time he finished here and then went to New Brunswick, New Jersey, to complete his theological training. He then entered the ministry, having charge of the first Holland Church in New York City. In connection with this he also assisting emigrants when they came to this country. After two years here he took charge of the church at East Williamson, New York. From here he went to Olymer in the same state. Thence he went to Summit, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, then to Pella, Iowa, then to Prairie View, Kansas and from there he came here where he served four years when death called and he responded.

He was a man of a genial disposition with a heart filled with love for the welfare of all who knew him. He was energetic and worked hard. He was a good student, a deep thinker and original. He fed his flock with the richest in the Word. The young people especially lose a faithful friend and counselor and the community, a worthy citizen who took interest in all the things that transpire and ever ready to lend a helping hand to all who came to him for advice.

Monday afternoon brought a great concourse of people together from surrounding towns to be present at the funeral of Reverend Ossewaarde. Not less than twelve different ministers were counted, of whom a number took part in expressing their grief over the great loss which the congregation and family sustained.

The whole services were in charge of Reverend De Jong of Alton, which were touching and yet simple. When all left for their homes every one felt that a man had been removed who did not live in vain.

He was married to Jennie Neland on May 11, 1892. To that union were born three daughters, Ann, Jedidiah and Cornelia, now Mrs. Frank Andrews of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mrs. George De Ruyter of Sioux Center, Iowa and Mrs. Henry Costing, Durham. North Carolina.
