Ireton Weekly Ledger Friday Aug 10th, 1906

Devout Christian Lady Passes away at the age of eighty six. Had been a Resident of Ireton for Twenty Years and was Universally Respected and Admired.

Mrs. Olive Morgan known to born old and young in this vicinity, as Grandma Morgan, died at her home in this city Wednesday evening at about seven o’clock. Her death was due partly to old age and a recent illness. Her demise has produced a shock to the people of this community that it well take sometime to overcome. Although on account of her advanced age it was known that she soon would pass away her friends are reluctant to give her up and the people are bowed down with grief as a consequence.

For twenty years she has been associated with Ireton and its people. She has been nearly half of Ireton’s citizens come into the world and grow up to young manhood and womanhood and has always been neat with a kindly word and cheering smile to assist them along on life’s journey. She has always been a devout Christian and lived her life as she interpreted God’s word. People did not hesitate to lay their troubles at her feet and always went away with comfort in their heart and a glimpse of the better land. Her mission in life has always been to do good and it has been adequately fulfilled. The Ledger feels that words cannot sufficiently pay the proper tribute to this noble woman.

Mrs. Morgan was born in Pennsylvania June 10, 1820 and came to Scott county Iowa with her husband, Frederick Morgan in 1854. They afterwards moved to Marion, Linn county, where they lived twenty years. From there they moved to Tama county and later to Plymouth county. I 1886 they moved to Ireton. Her husband died eight years ago and she has since lived with her daughter Agnes on Elm street.

A Large number of children are left to mourn the loss of a good mother. The funeral will occur this afternoon at half past two o’clock from the Methodist church and the remains will be interred in the Ireton cemetery. The funeral will probably be one of the largest in the history of Ireton. The business houses will be closed during the services.
