VINCENT O’CONNOR WELL KNOWN LOCAL MAN, PASSES ON

Vincent J. O’Connor, prominent business man here for 26 years died at Sacred Heart Hospital, Le Mars early Saturday morning after a few days illness.

Mr. O’Connor, who was manager of the Beck Store here for twenty years, was at the store until Thursday when taken critically ill. He had not been well for a number of years, but had recovered from so many attacks that family and friends were hopeful that he would rally from this one. He was only 57 years of age.

He was born June 1, 1898 at Vincent near Fort Dodge, Iowa to Patrick and Ellen (Downey) O'Connor, and came to Granville 26 years ago. He was married to Theresa Welter at Bird Island, Minnesota, where her parents had moved after leaving Granville.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Dr. O.M. O’Connor of Carroll; one daughter, Mrs. R.I. (Rita) Lund of Rockford, Illinois; three grandchildren: Richard, Janet and David Lund of Rockford, Illinois; three brothers and four sisters.

Dr. O’Connor and Mr. and Mrs. Lund and family arrived the last week when summoned by news of their father’s critical illness. Other relatives and friends also came for the funeral Tuesday, a complete list not being available at this writing. Mr. O’Connor was a World War I Veteran and a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Knights of Columbus, who attended the funeral in a body.

Solemn Requiem High Mass and Military Rites were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock, Reverend Becker officiating and the local veterans organizations according military honors.

Mr. O’Connor was a devoted family man, a local friend and faithful to his community obligations, as well as a valued employee and able business manager of friends who extend sympathy.
