RESIDENT OF HAWARDEN AND VICINITY FOR NEARLY HALF A CENTURY DIES AT HOSPITAL AFTER A LONG ILLNESS

Funeral services for Mrs. Edwin Olson, who died about 7 o’clock last Thursday evening at the Hawarden Hospital at 2:30 Monday afternoon with the Reverend D.A. Miller of the Big Springs Baptist Church in charge. Mrs. Ralph Doty and James Squier sang two numbers, Miss Ella Fleshman was at the piano.

Mrs. Olson had not been in good health for a number of years and was in the hospital twice the past winter. She was cared for at the A.J. Elbert home in Hawarden for several months.

Amanda Caroline Carlson was born May 23, 1878, in Sweden where she grew to womanhood. She came to America in 1902 and spent almost a half a century in Hawarden and vicinity. She was married to Edwin Olson July 8, 1904 at Elk Point. They settled on a farm southwest of Hawarden. In 1919 she came to Hawarden where she and her family lived five years, when they returned to the farm.

In 1914 she united with the Baptist Church in Big Springs and five years later she transferred her membership to the Baptist Church in Hawarden. Her husband preceded her in death a number of years ago. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Hans W. Smith of Minneapolis, and Walter Olson, who lives on the farm; three sisters, Mrs. John Nelson of Kingsburg, California, Mrs. Ellen Lundquist of South Pasadena, California, and Mrs. Elvira Cedegren, who resides in Sweden; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
