Grace Theresa Oberman, 100, of Sioux City died Monday, October 15, 2001, at a Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa, with Monsignor Kenneth A. Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. with the Reverend Bruce Lawler of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City officiating, all at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City.

Mrs. Oberman was born February 2, 1901, in Granville, the daughter of Henry and Walburga (Thoma) Schwartz. She was raised and educated in Granville.

She married Alvis Oberman on April 5, 1921, in Granville. He died July 24, 1977, in Sioux City.

The couple stayed in the Granville area until 1954, when they moved to Sioux City. She was employed as a cook and waitress at various cafes in the area.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed gardening, pets and loved to cook and bake. She also very much enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially her granddaughter Bonnie Johnson, who took care of her.

Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Wendling of Worthington, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three daughters, Grace Thill, LaVonne Gaynor-Singer and Darlene Stanton; her parents; all her brothers and sisters; two grandchildren, David Thill and Cheri Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Brazell.
