Mrs. John Mouw Passed Away

Mrs. Grace "Grada" Mouw was born September 28, 1886 near Sioux Center, and was one of the nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Roekel, nee Matilda Rouwenhorst.

She has lived in the vicinity of Sioux Center, then of Carmel, and later upon retiring in Sioux Center.

On February 27, 1907 she was united in marriage to John B. Mouw. To this union five children were born, all of them surviving.

The deceased had been declining in health for a few years. About two years ago she went to Rochester, Minnesota, where she underwent a goiter operation. From the after effects of the operations she never recovered.

In addition she was afflicted with hardening of the arteries. Last Tuesday she suffered a stroke, which resulted in her death last Thursday, January 18.

On January 5th of this year she was taken to a Sanitarium at Grand Rapids, Michigan, but all the surgeons, sanitariums, love ones sought to do, it was no avail. Death claimed her. She had reached the age of 64 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held in the Central Reformed Church on Tuesday, January 23. Interment was in the local cemetery.

Grace leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and the five children: Matilda, Mrs. Gerrit Sandbulte of Carmel; Bernard of Sheldon; Gerald and Junaida, Mrs. Richard Dibbet of Carmel, and Melvin of Sioux Center. Four of her brothers preceded her in death, namely, Chris, William, Albert, and George, One sister and three brothers survive her, namely Mrs. Christine Kuyper of Rock Valley; John of Hull, Otto of Orange City, and Henry of Amherst, Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren and large number of relatives and friends.

The deceased was a member of this Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Church. She had her hope in Christ as the only way unto salvation and felt the need of the Lord in her life.
