A Good Woman Gone
Mrs. Abraham Johnson Passes Away Saturday Evening
Sophia Louise Larsen was born in the vicinity of Orebro Sweden, July 19, 1840. When she was but three years of age her father died. She was reared in the Lutheran church but at an early age she became interested in the truths held by the Baptist church. It was at a time when this denomination was extremely unpopular, and to unite with them exposed one to persecution and ridicule. Her deeply religious nature, however, was attracted by the depth of spirituality these people possessed, and with firm devotion to duty she decided to cast her lot with them. And was baptized at the age of seventeen. In later days she often recounted the happy experiences of those early days.

On Christmas 1867 she was untied in marriage to Abraham Johnson, and in the spring of 1869 she came with her husband to America. They made their home the first six years in eastern Kansas where they endured the hardships and privations common to the early pioneers of the central west. They moved from there to Michigan, and later homesteaded in Turner County SD. In 1892 they moved their family to Union County SD., where they lived until six years ago when they retired from the farm and have since made their home in Hawarden.

About fifteen years ago Mrs. Johnson accepted the doctrines of the Seventh Day Adventist church and united with the small company of believers in Big Springs SD. She remained a faithful member until the day of her death. Among the last words she was understood to say was Jesus in Mine. For a number of years she has been failing in health and last Saturday evening she went Quietly to rest at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 24 days. Of immediate relatives she leaves to mourn her aged husband, one sister, four sons, two daughters, two daughters in law and two grandchildren, her brother and one daughter having gone to rest before her.
