MATTHEW MORGAN DIES AT AGE 88

Funeral services for Matthew Morgan, 88, who died Thursday at the Hawarden Hospital, were held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Reverend Father Raphael Fabish, who serves South Dakota parishes including Canton, temporarily replacing Father Friedman, officiated at the Requiem Mass. The rosary was recited at 8 o’clock Friday night.

Burial was in St, Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home. Casket bearers included Monroe Lundberg, Louis Hazel, John Brunsting, Ed Lienhart, Verne Mallette, and Warren Waster.

Mr. Morgan, who resided at the Gladstone Hotel, had been a resident of this community the past 22 years. He was born February 5, 1874 at Darlington, Wisconsin. And lived at Rock Rapids and on a homestead near Winner, South Dakota, before coming here in 1940.

Survivors include a brother, W. H. Morgan of Britton, South Dakota; three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Slaughter of San Francisco, Mrs. Frank Mc Caffrey of Portland, Oregon and Miss Margaret Morgan of Salt Lake City, Utah and several nieces and nephews including John Morgan of Hawarden.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Miss Margaret Morgan of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Morgan of Britton, South Dakota and Philip Morgan of Washington, D. C.
