Marjorie Swisher, 85, of Westfield, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at her home in Westfield surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa. Reverend Bert Burwell, A.i.M. will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Marjorie Ruth Kots was born July 28, 1932 on the family farm near Maurice, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Adrianna (Schuller) Kots. She attended school in Maurice and graduated from Maurice High School.

She was united in marriage to William ‘Bill’ Swisher on May 19, 1955 in Maurice, Iowa. They made their home in Plymouth County, living most of the time in Merrill. Early on, Marjorie stayed home to raise her children and to take care of her mother in law. Later, after her mother in law passed away, they moved to Le Mars. Marjorie went to work for Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars until her retirement. Following retirement, she babysat for many of her grandchildren. In 1999, they moved to Westfield, Iowa. Bill passed away August 22, 2015.

Marjorie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. Through the years, she enjoyed listening and playing music, especially on her organ and piano. When she was younger, she enjoyed playing her clarinet. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing word search puzzles. Watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was also an enjoyment for her. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Survivors include her seven children: Perry (Ercilia) Swisher of Le Mars, John Swisher of Westfield, Peggy (Scott) Linstrand of Le Mars, Rockey (Shanna) Swisher of Bolivar, MO, Caroline Gerrietts of Westfield, Tracy (Arlyn) Nissen of Le Mars, and Valerie (Hayden) McInnis of Westfield; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; her brother: Darwin (Marlene) Kots of Sutherland, IA; her sister: Lorna Koel of Madison, SD; her in laws: Leona Kots of Hospers, IA, Opal Hanke of Remsen, IA, Lucille Carlson of Beresford, SD, Sally Grasz of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jeri Swisher of Harlan, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Adrianna Kots; her husband, William ‘Bill’ Swisher; a granddaughter: Tessa Lynn Swisher; two sons in law: Terry Gerrietts and Bob Sherlock; her siblings: Nelson Kots, Lloyd (Lorraine) Kots, Orville (Ann) Kots, LuVerna (Henry) Kramer, Virgil Kots, Marvin (Dorothy) Kots, and Helen Boyd; and her brother in law: Del Koel.

The family would like to thank Hope Davis and the Hospice of Siouxland staff for their care and support.
