Mrs. Thelma Pott, age 100, of Hospers, passed away on Thursday, June 14, at the Sanford Senior Care Sheldon.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, June 18, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers. The Rev. Aaron Gonzalez will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hospers Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Monday, at the funeral home.

Thelma was born on December 9, 1917, at Ireton, the daughter of William and Pearl (Wesselink) Vander Ploeg. She was raised near Ireton and attended country school. After her parents’ deaths at a young age, she took care of her four siblings.

On December 21, 1945, she married Peter Pott at his parent’s home in Hospers. They made their home on the family farm near Hospers, where she was a homemaker and farm wife. They were members of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, where she participated in the Ladies Society. Peter passed away in 1999, after more than 53 years of marriage.

Mrs. Pott enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth, and her husband, Marion Baker, of Sheldon; four grandchildren, Kurt Baker, and his wife, Jackie, of Jacksonville, Florida, and their children, Evan and Tyler; Scott Baker, of Lake Park; Corrine, and her husband, Will Fenske, of Des Moines, and a baby on the way; and Renae, and her husband, Chad Hoffmann, of Cedar Rapids, and their children, Sydney and Carter; and a brother, Chasper Vander Ploeg, and his wife, Cia, of Sheldon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Ray Pott; an infant daughter; a sister, Henrietta Bulthuis; and two brothers, Robert Vander Ploeg and Henry Vander Ploeg.
